June is National Healthy Homes Month. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) is offering free webinars on lead hazards this month. 

From Washington:

• More than 107,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2021, a new high for the United States. See the data from the CDC here.
• The U.S. Health and Human Services Department’s Health Resources and Services Administration has launched the Maternal Mental Health Hotline, a confidential, toll-free hotline for expecting and new moms experiencing mental health challenges. Those who contact the hotline can receive a range of support, including brief interventions from trained counselors who are culturally and trauma-informed, as well as referrals to both community-based and telehealth providers as needed. 

From Columbus:

• Legislature hears testimony on AMCNO priority legislation before breaking for summer. Read our testimony on HB 454 Transgender Health Care for Minors, HB 598 Abortion Ban, and HB 608 Biomarker Testing. AMCNO takes seriously the attack on physicians and the physician-patient relationship in HB 454 and HB 598 and will continue to fight both bills when the legislature returns in the fall. 
• Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced the Pediatric Behavioral Health Initiative, an $84 million investment to increase access to care and expand capacity across the state so kids and their families can get services and supports for their behavioral health needs in or near their communities.

Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium Launches Innovative Prescriber Education Tool

• The Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium is taking its educational content to a new, innovative platform with the launch of its next course for prescribing clinicians. Powered by QuizTime, this course delivers daily questions to subscribers’ phone or email that can be completed in just a few minutes each day.
• Funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Overdose Data to Action grant, the course is free of charge to enrollees. It is designed for prescribing clinicians, including physicians, advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants. Continuing education credits are offered for participants through Vanderbilt University Medical System.
