- Judge blocks part of Idaho’s new abortion law in first post-Roe lawsuit by the Biden Administration. Attorney General Merrick Garland argued that the state’s law conflicted with the federal statute known as the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, or EMTALA, which ensures patients receive adequate emergency medical care.
- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Releases Roadmap for the End of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), which includes the eventual end of the Medicare PHE waivers and flexibilities, and information on what health care facilities and providers can do to prepare for future events.
- The Biden Administration announces new actions to combat the monkeypox outbreak.
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued its final rule enabling consumers with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss to purchase hearing aids meeting specific regulatory controls over-the-counter (OTC). Effective Oct. 17, 2022, it allows hearing aids within the OTC category to be sold directly to consumers in stores or online without the involvement of a licensed hearing health care professional.

AMCNO Brings Back Annual Awards - Nominate a Colleague Today!

It is a long-standing tradition of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) to present annual awards to recognize the incredible contributions of physicians. This year, awards will be presented at the first annual Physician Appreciation Night on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. If you would like to nominate an individual for these awards, please use the nomination form. Self-nominations will also be considered. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022.
