Increasing corporatization, private equity investment, and pressures on private practice are having a major effect on the organization of medical care and the experience of clinicians and patients.  This lecture and panel discussion will examine how the evolving context of health care presents possibilities and challenges for current and future practitioners.

Speaker:

Lawrence Casalino, MD, PhD is the Livingston Farrand Professor of Public Health and Chief of the Division of Health Policy and Economics (2008-2021), Weill Cornell Medical School Department of Population Health Sciences

Dr. Casalino was a full-time primary care physician for 20 years and brings that perspective to his research. He studies intended and unintended effects of public and private policies on provider organizations, the processes they use to provide care, quality and cost of care, and the impact of policies and organizational processes on socioeconomic and racial/ethnic disparities.  This work has led to more than 170 peer-reviewed articles, including 23 articles and editorials in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA.  He serves on the Medicare Payment and Advisory Commission and has served on the Panel of Health Advisors for the Congressional Budget Office, as a consultant to the Federal Trade Commission, and as senior advisor to the director of the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
